Nintendo Game Boy Pro Sound Modification

The Pro Sound modification on the original Nintendo Game Boy (DMG-01) is an essential mod for all of those wanting a more powerful sound from their Game Boy. This mod adds an extra stereo jack socket to the case which enables a far louder volume with enhanced bass and defined audio output. The jack socket used is a high quality, enclosed 3.5mm stereo socket enabling connection to headphones, mixing desk, computer or amplifier.

NOTE - This modification permanently disables the internal speaker on the Game Boy.

Sega Megadrive Console Modifications

The Sega Mega Drive is one hell of a console, arguably the best Sega created but it does have some flaws which can be rectified via internal modifications. You may or may not have realised that as standard on a PAL Mega Drive the gaming window is via a 'letter box' format, squashing the height of the video output and adding a solid border at the top and bottom of the screen. This is due to the PAL consoles running at 50hz whereas the NTSC models run at 60hz. By modifying a PAL system to have a switch toggling between 50Hz and 60Hz it enables full screen gameplay as well as a 20% increase in the speed of the audio and video!

Another flaw to the Mega Drive is the fact of 'slow-down' where the processor speed struggles to process and display a game at full speed resulting in an annoying slow motion effect. This is most easily seen and remembered on the likes of Sonic 2 when playing 2-player split screen mode where gameplay can become frustrating slowed down. The overlock mod rewires the processor clock speed via a new osciallator meaning the original 7Mhz Mega Drive CPU will now run at 11Mhz. By combinging both the 50/60Hz mod and the overclock mod you will be amazed at how much quicker and smoother game play will be.

NOTE - Most games work flawlessly when running on an overclocked system but some may cause game freezes and/or audio glitches. These mods are perfectly safe to both the machine and the cartridges.

PRICE = £70 (inc price of both modifications, refurbished Mega Drive PAL console, 240v PSU, 1 controller + RGB scart lead)

Atari 2600 Synth Modification

Did you know the Atari 2600 from the 70s can be converted into an awesome chip tune synth/beatbox? By using the awesome Synthcart by Paul Slocum, 2x 12 button controllers and a mod by Hand Baked you will have a great sounding 4-Bit music machine! The Atari 2600 Jr (PAL) is the console used due to its small size and better made internal circuitry. The Synthcart cartridge requires all of the switches on the top and back of the console to be used to acess the various banks of sounds and beats. This modification brings all of those switches on to the top of the console via a line of high quality toggle switches. Most importantly a mono RCA phone socket is added to the back of the unit to provide a high quality audio output that can easily be connected to a mixer or amplifier. In addition to the internal mods the 2 controllers supplied will be aesthetically changed to simplify the use of the machine. Finally a colour coded instruction sheet will be attached to the top of the console detailing the switch combinations required to acess each bank of sounds.

NOTE - The console will also function exactly as intended when used with other Atari cartridges. The Synthcart will need to be purchased separately from the Atari Age website.

PRICE = £80 (inc Atari 2600Jr PAL console, 2x 12 button controllers, 240v PSU and all modifications detailed above)
